Fariborz Kiani
Fariborz took great interest in classical Persian music from an early age when his father, a physician and at the same time an expert on classical Persian music played his collection of Persian recordings on their old wind-up gramaphone. His acquaintance with Maestro Sodeyf, one of Iran.s most highly respected vocalists, further deepened his passion for this art in general and for tombak in particular.
Fariborz started learning the tombak firstly by himself and later on with one of Iran.s leading tombak players, Morteza Ayan. He studied daf with Iran.s daf legend Bijan Kamkar. Fariborz has participated in numerous performances throughout the world accompanying some of the finest Iranian musicians. He holds regular percussion workshops in London and has given talks on percussion instruments of Iran at various universities throughout the UK. As well as concerts of classical Persian music, he has collaborated extensively with the early music ensembles .Safar. and .Sirinu..
In 1995 Fariborz founded the Nava Arts Group who has since become one of UK.s best known promoters of classical and folk Persian music of the highest standards
