Welcome to SAFAR

Spontaneous and highly improvisational, Safar is a cross-cultural fusion of musicians from Asia, Africa and Europe, playing a mixture of Eastern and Western medieval instruments. Headed by Sudanese Ud & Fiddle player Ahmed Abd Al Rahman and Iranian percussionist Fariborz Kiani - well-known as virtuoso exponents of their instruments in their own native musical circles, Safar also features European musicians Jon Banks and Matthew Spring, and singer Sara Stowe. Safar's concerts draw on a wide range of performance traditions of both eastern aural extemporised music and of western written music, the virtuosity of which has found past audiences riveted to their seats. Vocalist Sara Stowe brings her natural flair for languages and her studies of Persian Classical singing to the front with stunning performances in the original languages of Farsi, Arabic and medieval Spanish
